Simple DIY Home Staging Checklist
While preparing our Special Report: Staging Your Home for Sale, we asked restaging expert Cari Pilon of scSmartDesign, Inc.to give us a few short tips on restaging your home. Putting these suggestions into play before your first potential buyer walks through the door will help improve your home's potential for sale and hopefully increase the value of your property.
- Curb Appeal – Create an inviting entry! Add flowers to an entry and make sure landscaping is maintained so they don't drive right on by.
- Foyer – Make a great first impression! Place something beautiful and eye-catching in the foyer to make buyers want to continue in!
- Kitchen – Sell this space! Remove everything from the counter tops; create storage for your everyday items so you can put them away.
- Clean, Clean, Clean – Have a professional come in to do a one time deep clean.
- Lighting – They can't buy it if they can't see it! Change light bulbs to ensure brightly lit rooms.
- Bathrooms – Add special touches that evoke emotions from buyers; fluffy white towels, scented soaps and candles send a message of a relaxing environment.
- Bedrooms – Make the buyer feel at home! Turn down the bedding so buyers will be able to envision themselves sleeping there
- Whole House – Tidy up! Invest in some decorative boxes for the clutter that will collect while the home is on the market. Straighten up the bookshelves, pushing the books flush against the back of the shelves. Remove as many decorative knickknacks as you can.
